Hundreds of thousands of Auchan customers affected by data breach

The French retail chain Auchan has notified hundreds of thousands of customers that their personal data was stolen during a cyberattack.

In notifications sent to users last week, the company reports that the breach affected names, postal addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and loyalty card numbers. It emphasizes that banking information, passwords, and PIN codes were not compromised.

“We inform you that Auchan has fallen victim to a cyberattack. This attack resulted in unauthorized access to certain personal data associated with your loyalty program account,” the notice says.

Auchan states that it has taken all necessary measures to contain the attack and improve the security of its systems, and has also notified law enforcement and regulatory authorities about the incident.

The company advises affected customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing and fraud, as attackers may attempt to use the stolen information.

Company representatives told the French media that the incident affected “hundreds of thousands of customers.” However, the company did not disclose how the data leak occurred, who was behind the cyberattack, or whether the incident was linked to extortion.
